Beautiful Jovial swiss made snake bracelet / wristwatch. It is gold plated (10 microns), the snake head and tail is glittering with white and blue rhinestones.
The front says: Jovial, 17 jewels, Swiss made.
The backside says: Plaque OR G 10 microns, and BREVETE ET DEPOSE.
I found on internet that Breveté (or brevete without the accent as most sellers write it) means patented in French and most clocks produced between about 1850 and 1950 have that word stamped on the back and Depose means registered.
Jovial is a Swiss manufacturer of watches, with headquarters in Biel, Switzerland, formed in 1929.
So I guess my flea market find from today was made between 1929 and 1950. I paid 4 EUR for that. Woo hoo! Sadly, its not in working condition.
I would be very grateful for any additional info.
That's a great hunt!!! High quality and in such a good shape, I bet It's still running :-)
Thats the problem Kyra, its not running :D I have to take it to watch repair to ask how much... and if much, then it will stay a bracelet :)
Oh boy!! I would just wear it as a bracelet, too. It's beautiful. Four Euro - you did great.
Email Jovial and ask:

Thank you Efesgirl, a lot! I will email them.
Thank you Thomas! Glad you like it!
I would wear it as just a bracelet too, it is stunning!!!
Thank you Tassie!
Thank you Nuts!
So pretty, and such a good price. Your photographs are always so good.
Thank you Gillian - glad you like it!!
Thank you Valentino! Sigh. I already imagined the repair price would be so high or even higher.
I thought the same - someone treasured and loved the watch enough to keep it in this nice condition!
It's a beauty Lentilka! Sounds like a pretty good watch movement in it and I would get it fixed. To me, mechanical watches are like a live thing; they need to be alive and run to be happy :)
Thank you!
Looks like the repair is on long time to-do list.
company response:
Referring to your inquiry for the old Jovial wrist watch, kindly note that we have no records available for production before 1970, as the company has closed and new owner brought the company during end 1980's, thus we don’t have any data to give you details of it.
Well, you don't know any more than you did before. Sheesh....
yep... but I still love it.. :)
