I bought this vase thinking it might be Welz based on the long rigaree and the turquoise inner layer. Both characteristics I know from other Welz pieces, but not enough for an attribution.
However when I sent a picture of it to Craig he kindly sent back the Welz trophy vase you see in image two......and I had my attribution.
Image three has caught the amber casing on the foot. I believe the inclusions are mica but the amber casing makes them appear yellow.
Image four shows other Welz vases with the same style of rigaree.
Height 30 cm./12 inches
What a fabulous piece in a very uncommonly seen decor!!
Thank you, Craig, for the comment and the help!
i Think these are quite exciting !!!!
Amber casing to make mica appear like gold - ingenious!
This vase is so unusual and awesome Peggy. The shape to start with - it's stretched but still gracious and stately. I can never (ever!) go past a coloured case and the turquoise interior is fantastic. I really love the way the rigaree has been extended to make the handles.
Just great. Great too you were right with your Welz attribution!
The shape and the decor are new for me - never seen before. This is so good feeling when your thinking about attribution is confirmed.Great vase!
Thank you, vetraio, your comment's really pleasing.
Wow22, the seller said the inclusions were 'pailles d'or' but that had to be wrong. So I thought it would be a gold coloured base metal. However when it arrived and I saw the amber casing.......
Thank you so much, Karen, there were clues of course and I do like the large and more unusual pieces. With little or no documentation for early Welz you have to take a flyer sometimes.......fun really :)
Hello Ivonne, I think the image Craig sent is his only example of this décor.....so not surprising that neither of us had seen it before.
This is one visually striking vase Peggy! The rigaree just goes on and on... Fantastic! The second one... Wow!
Mmmmmmmmm - a wonderful trio of posts.
Thank you so much Rick. If by, 'The second one' you mean the pink one, I'd agree.....that one would be in the top ten of all my pieces.
I appreciate the compliment, Ian, though I'm a little surprised. I thought our paths had been diverging recently, you becoming more Kraliky and me becoming more Welzy lol
Mmm pink and green, a lovely decor.
