This is a very beautiful rare antique Bronze Sculpture - Hindu God Rama, Vishnu Avata Prince Of Ayod. I got it several years ago along with an earlier 'bill of sale' purchased as an antique in 1959 for $1250!
At first I thought it was a woman, but then after looking around it turns out to be Rama one of the many deities in Hinduism. I also found out that Rama is considered to be one of the most important avatars of Vishnu. In a few Rama-centric sects, he is considered the Supreme Being, rather than an avatar.
Also associated with the sculpture seems to be "Vishnu Avata Prince Of Ayodhaya."
The bronze is 27' tall and 22" wide. I am not sure if their is a signature or where it might be. There was no base, it had 4 holes on its base, so I screwed it to a piece of wood so it could stand.
I don't know how old it is...
I have one almost exactly like yours that I inherited from my Grandmother except mine is over 36" tall and takes two to lift it's so heavy. Once I have it appraised I'm looking to sell it along with a pair of 4' tall wooded carved statues that are @200 years old.
Thanks for your posting as the information you provided has given me tons of information about the bronze.
Cheers.
Sorry it's 48" Tall
