As the title states, I have 6 chairs that were made by the Grand ledge Chair Co. and are made from solid mahogany. I researched as much as I could about the company and they were in business from 1883 to 1982 and made chairs in styles popular for the given time period. The chairs look to have the original upholstery because I only see one set of staple marks for the fabric and one set of staple marks for the dust cover. The stuffing looks to be of horse/hog hair with cotton batting, but what is throwing me for a loop is the thin piece of foam used as the top layer. Everything I have researched does not say anything about using foam in addition to the cotton batting. The webbing is about 3 inches wide and are tacked down with 1/2 inch blued nails that have very thin head which are easy to pop off the shaft. The hair and the cotton are in great shape but the webbing has sagged about 3 inches. Because of the company history and the thin piece of foam used, I cannot date or determine the value of these chairs. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Also, should I reupholster with the hair and cotton or use foam and poly batting?

      These are really neat!
I have no information, but I am a current resident in the apartment buildings that now occupy the Grand Ledge Chair Company. It is so cool to see the creations that once were formed in the building I live in.
