Can anyone please provide me with information on this bracelet? It appears to be in great condition (clasp is still very secure) but the chain is missing. It is children-size. Someone gifted this to me when I was younger. It is not stamped so I don't know who made it, etc. All help would be appreciated.
Hi - look on the underside of the V clasp. Sometimes there are marks there when the bracelet is silver with gilded finish. This is a very pretty 1950s style, maybe European. Not possible to tell you who made it without maker's marks. If you are unsure of the metal, take it a jeweler for a test.
Thank you for the feedback, Efesgirl. I checked on the underside of the clasp and all over. No markings.
OK then, it is most likely a gilded base metal. A magnet may stick to it.
Just tried the magnet. Doesn't stick. Does that mean it's gold?
Magnet test is not a proof. Base metals do not stick.Without marks, the only way to test it would be acid test with surface layer filed deep enough (where it cannot be seen). Again, without marks it`s most likely gold plated unless proven otherwise.
Thanks Ivan49. I'll take it to my jeweler to see if they can tell me anything.
No need to take it to the jeweler. Wear to gold plating is clearly seen on enlarged photos (especially on the edges close to the clasp).
