This bronze cast is marked Japan on base and very nicely done , I have seen many examples on line of buddahs ; was wondering what the name of this one is and why the backside is flat . Was it meant to be a book end ? Should it have a mate / The buddah sits in meditation , it measures 6 1/4 " tall , 5 1/2 " knee to knee (widest) and it weighs about 2lbs.

Thank You TubeAmp for the translation . Would you know why the backside is flat per chance ?
Thank you for the *love*

Pure speculation as it may have been part of a bookend set, but I feel it may be flat just to fit perfectly against the back of a small home shrine.

Thanks again TubeAmp , I appreciate your opinion . The statues I've been finding online all have detailed backsides with the creases in the robe the buddah is wearing , that is why I was thinking this one may be part of a set of bookends .
The bottom of the statue is not hollow which is a big warning sign for a bronze. I am pretty sure at this point that its a new production made of resin. Cast bronzes are always hollow from the lost wax process.

Thank you for the input . This statue is not resin though , for sure metal ; cold to touch and pin point tested . Really curious that the back is flat , it sits in my husbands home office ; he enjoys it .
hi pat the below words is "fang guang" (yoshimitsu)
