Hello everyone.
I bought this mainly because of the box which I just love!
Have only been able to narrow down the age of it from 1888 to 1910 going on the Fairfax and Roberts logo and address.
The seller did not know if the earrings were original to it and I don't know either but they fit really nicely!!
I would think paste or something stones, with rose gold? hooks. They have not shown up in the picture very well as they actually really really sparkle!!
Unusual looking setting and backs I think.....perhaps once were buttons??
They do look lovely in the box though......appreciate your thoughts, thanks, Judy
I love everything about them.
Thank you Celeine for the wonderful comment!!!
How very interesting! The hooks definitely do look like gold. The claw prongs also give them quite a bit of age. I see what you mean about the earrings maybe having been buttons once upon a time. If so, I wonder why someone would go to the expense of having buttons made into earrings with gold hooks.
Thanks Bonnie....I thought the same about the gold hooks ....they really do look out of place I think with the fronts of the earrings!!
Such a great lot Judy. The earrings are neat but TBH the box grabs me more. Love the frayed silk.
Thanks Karen, we have quite a few old jeweller's boxes and cases but this one is the pick of the bunch for sure!
That is a nice example of these earrings presentation boxes!
They were mostly for pendant earrings which display nicely in them.
So, I'm thinking the beautiful paste earrings are not the original ones to the box :-)
The hooks are very well made too!
Very nice Judy!!
Thanks Pascale, hmm pendant earrings....that's great !!! I will have to keep my eye out for something suitable now lol.... it is a really lovely box, thanks and the earrings are really pretty.....would you have a guess as to the age of the earrings?? and you think they are paste? that would be great......
Scott, thanks very much, I know you are not really into jewellery so I do appreciate your lovely comments!!!
Judy, I think paste, but could be rhinestones or strass, only to say not diamonds, because of simple prongs :-)
Classical daisy shape, my guess is first 20 years of 20th century.
Exactly! I love that box!
They are lovely! Besides rhinestones and strass being used I have also seen old jewelry with rockchrystals backed with foil. Don't know if that was only used here in Scandinavia. Your stones have an old cut.
Which makes me think they can be old.
Thanks for your help Pascale, really appreciated and with Elizabethan's comment as well I will mark out as Solved now if that's ok with you.....that's is more than enough information for me!!! Thanks again

Love the old style box Judy, nice earrings too!
Thanks popsKen for the great comment and the love, always appreciated!!!
Oh wow, love the earrings, in my view they have a Georgian or early Victorian look to them, which I would say are paste stones. I have a pair of cut steel Georgian earrings which have a similar gold Shepard hook, which were put on at a later date. The box is lovely to.

Enclosed backs, similar to these.
Oh, no, Jean not similar at all except being round and paste :-)
Judy's ones have triangular prongs on outer stones, can be well seen in pics 3 and 4, nothing similar in Georgian settings!
Oops yes I see were your coming from, Kyra. The prongs are definitely not Georgian, I was looking at the enclosed back, I should pay more attention. :-)
I agree Tassie... whether the earrings are contemporary to the case or not, they go great together!
Haha, thanks Jean and Kyra!!
