I would be greatful for any information someone has reguarding this item.
    Is this WWI or WWII?
Out of respect for my father-in-law a WWII veteran (R.I.P.) I never display it. I'm not really fond of it, and feel rather guilty for even having it in the house.

Correction: paratrooper is the correct term, instead of jump.

Hello, where did you get this? The Waffen SS had only one battalion of paratroopers, which was the 500th SS Parachute Battalion. I have never seen a German gravity knife that looks anything like this. I am not sure about the markings, for the eagle looks somewhat crude, and the swastika's arms are somewhat off. The RZM mark is not as an original should be, for there should be another circle surrounding the existing one. I am not an expert, and I am only offering my opinion, but this looks like a fantasy piece(something made up that never existed),where the markings were added to some kind of knife.

I use to have one just like this. I showed it to a local expert who indicated these were not real and pure fantasy items. However they are very cool in the way they work. Most of my friends thought it was a real Nazi knife and still did not believe me when I told them it was fake. Thanks for sharing.

I acquired it about 25+yrs ago in a box of stuff near Mare Island in Vallejo, Calif..
The stamp at the base of the blade says CARL ELCKHORN on top & SOLIGEN on the bottem. and a squirrel in the center.
you can barely see it in the 2nd photo. If you can picture an oval race track with the words on the road and a big squirrel in the center... I'm a chick.. give me a break :)
Thank you all.. for the info!

Unfortunatly your knife is a fantesy piece made in England in the early 1960s
Check out Lt. Col Thomas Johnsons Books, "Daggers of the third reich", "Fakes & Reproductions" They sell for about 50 Dollars at local flea markets! If they were authentic, they would have a value of several hundred..........
