I am a sucker for green glass and find this vase from Kurata particularly appealing. The green with applied gold is pretty nice, and like a lot of Japanese art glass the appeal has been increased by sand blasting the surface to a matte finish.
I have mentioned before the use of French phrases in Japanese glass sales and Kurata have done it here for this range. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Verre dore means golden glass, apropos the metal flake.
I am not sure of the age of this glass; possibly more than 20 years or so as Kurata changed their brand name to Tsukiyono in the late 80s.
Height: 25cm
**Thanks to Kyratango for correcting my translation:
Verre dore means gilded glass.
Really loving the colors you are finding.
When I see your glass pieces like this Karen I really wish I had the room to have a collection of these! I love this one!!
Something very appealing about silky satin finishes even on pottery. They just seem a bit more elegant somehow. :)
I am so glad you mentioned the reference to the French words there...I was wondering that very thing as I was looking at it. lol, nice going...I'll watch for the answer to your question too. Really pretty K.
All of your glass items are beautiful, but I think this is the best!!!
Yeah, the Japanese like using foreign phrases in their ads, particularly French and Italian. English., a distant third (???). Lovely green, Karen! [;>)
Charming color and vase, Karen!
Verre doré means gilded glass :-)
Racer4four this is so beautiful! Love the fresh color and the moment in it.
If you don't mind, could you have a look at my old post and see if you can tell what label this is?

This is just gorgeous! The shot of the base made me think of a watermelon rind.
The shape of this vase is positively voluptuous, and the wonderful swaying fronds only add to the effect......
It's a BEAUT !!!!
Many thanks for the love and comments all.

Thanks so much Ken!
I normally don't like green Karen, but this vase is superb! The beautiful alternating colors, the applied gold, and I can never resist a matte finish!
Sorry for the late response Rick.
Green and matte - all good. Thanks for your knowledgeable input as always!
