This old rocker

I got this old rocking chair from a yard sale, it's missing the seat and the pictures don't do it justice. It is quite dark, almost burnt looking, chipping paint, patina and I'm not sure if I should sand it, put a seat on it or leave it as is. Your feedback is most welcome
