A pretty free form mouth blown vase, maybe from the 70s or 80s. No dings or any other problems. Not that little, either, as it weighs in at about 2 pounds. Nice, thick glass with the clarity of lead crystal. Maybe it is lead crystal...is it?

    :-))))

Thanks for coming to my garden.

olebodie - it's much too thick to ring. There is a prism effect in the second photo, plus the weight, so I think it could be lead crystal. Not 100% sure, however...

Organic shape - doesn't it grow in your fish pond :-)

Very cool piece Bonnie - love the green and the shape.

I doubt it's lead crystal. Two reasons
      1. The colour. Green like this is usually made by the addition of chrome oxides which do not mix well with the lead oxides needed to make crystal.
      2. The shape. Lead crystal has a much lower working temperature and viscosity than most other glass, like potash or soda glass. This means it would be a pain to hot work as the glass loses heat too quickly to be able to make those points and pulls. Lead crystal is softer and is less brittle than other vase glass and so is great for cutting.

It's probably just heavy because it is a good size lump of glass.

karen - thanks for verifying. I'm not great when it comes to glass types. The glass gives off beautiful wave patterns when the sun shines through it.

That's called optics when applied to art glass. The view through the glass and the light reflected from the glass change due to the shapes in the vase. I love glass - it has a life like no other.....sigh....
