I spotted this right away and I'm glad I didn't pass it up. This photo has no glass on it as it needed to be cleaned so I took the opportunity. And to my surprise, inside on the cardboard back, is the description I hope you can see it. (Looks almost like a grocery list to the right side) lol
This is small measuring at 5" x 3.5" (12.7cm x 8.89cm) set into a simple piece of black construction paper and in a frame that's 11" x 9" (27.94cm x 22.86cm) I hope the cm's are right.
I'm not positive but I think this piece was done around the mid 60's. Mexican Straw Art has been around and authenticated since the early 1800's. It has been said this type of art actually came to life in the 1600's but there are no examples to prove if this is a fact. Great folk art that is highly collectable to this day.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the love Ms EG! Always appreciated!
Searching a little further, this could have been done in the 40's??? Interesting.
Very beautiful I think, totally fascinating !~
Thank you for the love aura. Appreciated!
Phil, it's another one of those things where I have it near me and everytime I look at it I like it more and more. I think the upbringing with my Great Uncle's artwork gave me a bit of a thirst for folk art! Thanks so much for your love and lovely comment, as always!!! xoxo
Caperkid, thanks for the love!
I love this sort of bright, graphic folk art. The writing on the back is so interesting too, with it's info on materials.
Hi Karen, I thought that was pretty cool too how the info used is on the back. That was the should I or shouldn't I decision maker right there ;) Proof that great minds think alike! lol
Thank you all for all the love ;)
