I found this lamp at a garage sale. It is 12" high (includes the ring on top) and 5 1/2 " on the sides. The glass is blue and it has vents around the neck and on one of the side bottoms. It is made of metal and is heavy. I can't tell if it is heavy because of the metal or because of the thick blue glass...probably the glass. It is a very worn green color. Could the train have been green? I don't know if it is a kerosene or oil lamp. Is it a caboose lamp? About how old is it? Thanks for your help.
Looks like a boat position light. Don't know what a blue light would be for ? Sure it's not green ?

The blue light for railroads acts a warning that something is going on with repair, or something else. There are strict rules governing the blue light usage on railroads. That's why I thought this lantern was with the railroad. With a flashlight inside, the glass shows a blue light. Definitely not any other color. No blue lights on a boat, I'm told. I, also, originally thought it was a boat light. But, boats are green, red and white. I've looked online for awhile now and can't find this lamp. SpiritBear...Where have you see this lantern before?
Since the construction is virtually identical, it makes sense that boat & train lamps be made by the same manufacturers.
