Picked this beautiful old dresser up today at the DAV. It is walnut through and through. As the pictures show the dovetails were hand cut and the nails were square shank. The dressings for the keyholes are wood also. I just loved it on sight. No idea as to age or maker . Anyone have any info or ?
Nice walnut dresser-- I'd put it in the late 19th century.

Your dresser bears an uncanny resemblance to one I have. Mine has been in the family since the late 1800's for sure as my great aunt was nice enough to hand write a history note and glue it to the drawer so my mother would remember its history. It is possible that it is a fair bit older than that by the birth dates of those she referenced. I can't post a picture of it here but would happily provide you with a picture. I know that mine was located at the very eastern edge of Iowa at that time, but I know that the man who owned it had a brother that was a furniture maker in West Virginia so have always wondered if he could have made it.
