Here's today's find from Volunteer's of America. A nice pair of Blue Mountain Pottery rearing horse bookends. A good way to date these is also by the glaze colors. These are done in a yellow/brown or Harvest Gold drip glaze (introduced 1968 used thru 82) instead of the traditional blue green drip glaze. It was great to find a pair and they are in excellent shape. One tiny glaze miss to the base of one is the only flaw exposing a bit of the red clay body. Glad I stopped in today as tomorrow is the 50% sale day for the whole store. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have hung around very long. They were only a few dollars and not worth taking the chance of missing them or fighting the crowds for a half price deal. -Mike-

BMP makes beautiful things! I wish I could find some of it here in Wooden Shoe Land.

Thanks Bonnie...yes they sure do and their animals are my favorite pieces. This is a color you don't see very often as opposed to the blue green.

The harvest gold suits the subject too Mike. I really like the way the horses are modelled - just a bit abstracted.

Thanks Scott, Tassie, and Karen...I agree the natural earth tones suit these slightly "deco"style horses well. :)

I like the fact that they aren't painted exactly identical, even though the shape and colors are the same. Gives them a different, individual look. [;>)

Thanks Nevada :)....The characteristics of drip glazes are quite random. It would be almost impossible to get the same pattern twice. You never know what you'll get until you fire them. Which means you can also end up with some not so great ones as well...lol.
