I found this at an estate sale and fell in love. I cannot find anything about this hat as far as worth. I know Svend was a design house in Paris. The written receipt in the hat box is from 1956. Can anyone help? Any ideas?
Thanks so much-
Michelle
What a treat to have original sale slip and the box. Lucky! I suppose you got it for around the original sale price too? Nice score. As far as worth could be priceless if you have the right outfit LOL! I am not familiar with this design house but if I were going to sell it on Ebay I would start the bids around $10-$20 and hope someone bid. The style of the hat is not an easy one to wear and not many people can pull it off without looking like they are going to a costume party. But you never know what will happen with this kind of thing you could list it for $10 and get a couple of serious hat collectors to get into a bidding war and end up selling it for a couple $100. Good luck:)
Actually-less than she paid in 1956! I couldn't believe it! Thank you for your suggestions-I have a vintage shop on Etsy and usually stay clear of clothing and such because I know so little about them, but I couldn't pass on this hat!
Love your find, I would wear this hat every day, especially, when it rains!
Having the box and receipt is key. This alone makes the hat worth more!
Hi,
Svend was a real person, not a design house, and he was not French although he worked from Paris after WWII. I really don't think the hatbox and the hat are a match, just that the hat was stored in there. The original Svend hat is gone, which is too bad.
