So I thought Manikin might like to see this doll. This is a "Mariposa" from Brazil, often offered as Lenci, or Lenci/Joao Perotti, which is a fraud of a different sort, as she would know, and will hopefully add her knowledge to this thread. This doll is actually a very high quality doll in terms of artistry, the face is well painted, the clothes are beautiful. Unfortunately it is damaged, perhaps Manikin can help me with that, there is a sort of fishhook jutting out just above the apron (Photo #4) which when I touch seems to move something in the back. One earring is missing, and the clothes are stained on the sleeve and the back of the hem. Scarf is worn and stained. A bit of felt missing from the face on both sides near the ears. Still, that beautiful face made her irresistible. The values are pretty good on these dolls, and considering I got her at a Bonnie price, lol, am altogether pleased with her. Thanks for looking.
She's pretty spectacular Katherine!!!!

Yes, I thought so, JS! :)

Thanks for the love, brunswick, NevadaBlades, TassieDevil, and fortapache. :)
She is gorgeous and adorable, even with skin and intestinal issues.
I would love to find one like her!
Very nice :-) The metal piece I don't believe belongs sticking out . She has legs like a boudoir doll ( Bed Doll) vs stocky legs she could stand on so she was meant to sit on a bed . 1930's . Here is your doll .

Thanks, Karen, it was pure luck that I found her, and at a great price -- $4.50! I'd call that a bargain. :)
Thank you Manikin, I have an appointment to take her into the local doll hospital on Monday to see what that hook is about. I'll take a look at the link now. :)
Manikin, did you notice that the doll in the link had a metal hook protruding as well? The seller didn't mention it in the listing. You know what I'm thinking is that the doll must have originally held something heavy and the hook held that something in place. So strange, as if the doll is meant to be sitting, then why the hook? A mystery for sure!
Okay, this listing is what I refered to in my opening post. The seller mentions Lenci and Holzer & Cie/Joao Perotti as competitors, having worked for Lenci. That is a total myth in an effort to drive up the interest in the Brazilian dolls. There is no link to Lenci through Holzier & Cie, and it isn't known that a Joao Perotti even ever existed.

They don't say worked for Lenci in listing I posted and many companies were competing with Lenci but their quality varies by makers . Some did so well it becomes a bit difficult to tell but this doll has no qualities of a Lenci . Not sure why that hook is there but they would not sell a doll with a sharp hook sticking out . So it either is part of her internal structure or added by someone .
In the link you posted, the hook is there in that doll, and in my doll, the hook is there, so can't be someone added the hooks at random. Possibly, as you suggest, these dolls were prone to some internal structural issue which caused this hook to protrude.
Katherine the link I sent the metal you see is part of her doll stand it wraps partially around her waist it is not on doll like yours is :-)

Okay, I see it now that I went back to look. Thank you! :)
I think yours maybe part of insides. Does the doll have arms that bend or pose ? I did see one close to yours holding a guitar ?
The arms are not jointed but being felt are not stiff. I do think it's possible she was holding something though the hands show no signs of it, or made to look as if holding something.
Felt dolls seem to come my way a lot. I would appreciate your expertise on two boy dolls I am about to post. :)
