My wife and I purchased this from an estate sale last week. I was told that it's from the 1800's and made in France. If anyone has any background on this, I would greatly appreciate it!

Need some photos of the construction to judge the date on this.
Some additional photos of the drawer joints, interior and back of the piece would be helpful.

Its like a renaissance style but some of the carvings should not be mounted on such small backs. It gives me the impression from the photos that it is a reproduction.
The sides and lower cabinet geometric shapes look more like etchings than the robust carving of an original piece, very nice but very nice to fool on this renaissance bookcase. Here are some orignal examples :

I agree with phil. The lack of craftsmanship, the finish and type of woods tell me it's a much newer piece.
