This brooch was my great grandmother's. I am wondering about the pearl on the back. Is this a designers' signature? Why is there a baby pearl on the back of the brooch? Have you seen something similar?

The only thing I can think of is that it's a replacement pearl in case of loss. Are there any gold marks or any other marks on the brooch?

It's unlikely a replacement bead would be glued to the surface, I'd say it's accidental, most likely the bead was dropped, rolled under and got stuck there. Can't totally exclude the theory about a designer signature but I've never seen one.
