This bowl was given to my mum by one nice old lady in the early 1960s in the Czech Republic, were she was studying that time as a young woman. It consist from a metal rim and an actual glass bowl. Measures approximately 33 cm x 20 x 10 cm. It always decorated our hallway, since I can remember. Mum always said to me it is a silver, but now I think it is only silver plated. The bowl has no marks and some parts have a yellowish tinge. I believe it is from the early 1900s, in typical Art Nouveau style.
If somebody could tell me more about this item I very much appreciate it.
Yes, it is definitely plated. I agree that it is from the Art Nouveau period, and is probably a serving dish.
You have already answered all questions. Art nouveau, silver plated (cleaning over more than 100 years revealed base metal). Bohemia, Austria Hungary. It`s good the glass is intact. If you want to clean it do not use any abrasive. Still very common in ex- Austria Hungary countries. Szandrik (Sandrik) factory had huge production, but without marks difficult to tell. Nice piece! Enjoy it.
Thanks, Bonnie!!!
Thank you Ivan too!!! And to everybody for stopping by :)
Thomas, I appreciate your comment! The doily was crocheted by my grandma many years ago.
I agree!!! My grandma made loads. I know they should be stiffened and nicely ironed, but now only my dad lives in our old place. I live far away from him and visit only twice per year.
I love this Martika, it is just beautiful!!!
Thank you Judy for your nice comment!!! :)
I love the metalwork and the fact that the glass is plain.....it lets the metalwork sing!
Thank you sklo42!!! :)
