I know it is not really in the fashion category, feels more like history, but, a women's hand fan, always an accessory.

According to Cynthia Fendel in her book "Novelty Hand Fans", patriotic photographic fans like these were popular in America during the Spanish American War (1898). Most of them had an American flag on one side and the Cuban flag on the opposite. She mentions that similar fans were made with President McKinley's cabinet and with heroes of the Boer War. LOVE IT! They are leaders of the Spanish American War. The First one is Admiral Dewey.

Admiral Dewey is best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War.

The others are: General Nelson A. Miles; General Wesley Merritt; Rear Admiral William T. Sampson; President William McKinley; Major General William Rufus Shafter (aka Pecos Bill!) (Can't see the rest.)
