ceremonial piece, Native American??

Hi, everyone!

I found something very cool at an auction and had to have it..........
But have NO idea what it is!

Looks to me like some sort of (Native American?) ceremonial thing.
It's made of a wooden stick, wrapped in metal and at the end there's a silver clad gourd (?) with Turquoise inlay, it dangles.

I'd love to know what I bought, so I can tell people who come over what it is. Let me know if you know?
