The little second hand shop I've been going to for many years presented me with the necklace, brooch and one pair of earrings. The S shape earrings were bought this past weekend from a garage sale for 50 cents.
Nobody looked at the 1950s/1960s white and yellow gold brooch because it looks exactly like the costume double' brooches made in Western Germany. The 585 stamp went unnoticed. The necklace was with three other other costume jewelry necklaces. I picked that up as soon as it was put on the table. Nobody noticed the teeny, tiny gold stamp ( old people with bad eyes, lol!).
More than 32 grams of 14K gold - for less than the cost of a meal at McD's.
:-)))))
UPDATE 9/7/2016: I have found out that the two upper chains are not 14K - they are 18K. ~!!!!~
Geri tested them separately because of their color. The necklace apparently was only the one open link chain, and somewhere in it's life it was expanded to three chains. The total scrap value of the necklace is 564,00 Euro/$634.00.
*faint*
I turned in the brooch ( scratched and out of date) and both pair of earrings for cash - now I can pay in full for my new glasses, which are due to arrive next week!
Thanks for coming over!

CONGRATULATION!!! Awesome!!!
martika - last Tuesday, this same shopkeeper handed me a 14k white gold necklace for a buck. She thought it was pretty...but did not see the 585 gold stamp on the clasp. Unbelievable. I turned it in for scrap because it was an outdated style and had the sort of chain which would easily rip out hair, should any become entangled in it. I needed the cash to pay for my new glasses, anyhow! ;-)))
I just decided I want to wear glasses. My eyesight isn't so good as should be and I visit thrift shops and rarely find some valuable jewellery (never gold). So a pair of glasses will be handy! :)))
By the way your shopkeeper is incredibly short sighted and you are incredibly lucky !!! :)))
martika - she never looks at the jewelry for marks because she has no idea what to look for...but I do.....
Go get yourself a pair of snazzy glasses. There are some really nice frames out there.
True beauties!! Incredible bargain!
OMG Bonnie, what else can I say, I am gobsmacked!!!! Well done .....so beautiful!!!
Judy - I was also gobsmacked this afternoon....see the Update!! Yikes.....
Ken - it's out there!!! Look at the links of necklaces and bracelets - often, tiny gold marks are on the last link before the clasp.
That is Fabulous Bonnie!!!! Wow, wow and wow!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :p

LOL fleafinder! I'm overseas, in the Netherlands. I imagine you'd have to come here...

Ok, teacher, I see the number in the last pic. ;) How magnified is that?
I have a 10x - 21 lighted loupe. Should I be able to see it with that?
Last link before the clasp, last link before the clasp.....
Do you take these folks espresso or hot toddies or... anything? LOL
Congrats!! You never cease to amaze!!
Many thanks for your posts, information and support! :)
OGF - I have a doublet 10x-16 jeweler's loupe and it's enough to get clear shots when I hold the loupe up against the camera lens.
I tell you what - I was cool on the outside while looking at that necklace, but my insides were jumping up and down and hollering!
OGF - thanks so much for the lovely compliments! :-))))
What about me, does my grrr count for nothing? Where's the love, Bonnie, where is the love???? ;P
