There is not currently or recently a bottle like yours on ebay - which may be good news value wise -- http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=HORLACHER*&_fln=1

SIZZLER,I AM TRYING TO BE SERIOUS,I JUST WANT INFO ON BEER BOTTLE!

Very nice Blob Top you have, that is an 1800's bottle for sure ! are there any markings on the heel of the bottle or bottom ?
    5. APSTONE, 14 years ago
THANKYOU PHANTOMD,I DO NOT SEE ANY MARKINGS ON IT,CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT TO LOOK FOR?
    6. Dennis, 14 years ago
Most bottles made before 1858 will have a "pontil" mark. This mark was left when the "punty rod" was snapped off the bottom of the bottle.
Sometime around 1855 a tool called a snap case was invented which allowed the glassblower to hold the bottle for finishing without using a punty rod

If there are any marks on the bottom, such as a number or letter, then it isn't a pontil.

I have a bottle that was made using a snap case tool, and it isn't as old as the one in the picture, mine isn't a blob top !
That is a beautiful bottle !!!

You're Welcome, and I wouldn't be totally suprised if that bottle was a soda bottle, and not beer from reading the history on Horlacher, I saw another Horlacher bottle auctioned off for $60, and it did not have the enclosure and was empty.

WOW,THATS INTERESTING,I JUST ASSUMED IT WAS BEER BECAUSE I LOOKED UP THE COMPANY AND IT WAS A BREWERY,VERY GOOD TO KNOW,MY HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1900 AND I FOUND IT WHILE CLEANING THE BASEMENT,WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO WITH IT?
    10. Dennis, 14 years ago
I read the history on the Horlacher Brewery, and not that I'm a pro on this subject, but the time line and the age of the bottle, I would lean more towards it being a soda bottle, it wouldn't surprise me and the bottle is older than your home.
I can't speak for other collectors, as I just collect the ones I find while scuba diving, (My wife would not be happy if I put money into them) but it seems that you could get a fair price for that bottle, since it has the enclosure on it, but as to the contents of the bottle, one could only assume that that bottle is all original, and would be a very welcome addition to any collection, I know I'd want it !

THANKS AGAIN,WE DO NOT COLLECT SO I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOMEONE HAVE IT WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF IT, SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!
    12. Phantomd, 14 years ago
You're Welcome. I would definately take care of it, would have to put on a drool bib first before handling that bottle ! The only blob top I have, I found on a scuba dive, and it's just the neck...lol
