I've had this brooch for a while now and never got around to posting it on CW. It is about 1 1/2 inch in Diameter. I love the engravings and the arrangement of the garnets. The brooch was sold as 15 ct gold but with having no hallmarks I tested it, and it tested as 9ct. The garnets are a lovely ruby red colour, and with the rose gold it really is a very pretty brooch. I'm presuming that it is Victorian, but would like a second opinion.
    Many thanks for.

Hi Scott, thanks for your lovely comment, the stones are garnets, but they do look very much like rubies. ;-)

      Another beauty Jean.
I have to agree with Nutsa about your jewellery. I recently went back through all of your posts, and although I recall seeing most, I was blown away again by the variety and greatness of your collection. They are all a pleasure to see and read about. Congratulations on a wonderful collection and thanks for opening my eyes!

Hello Judy, it looks really lovely in these photos, I took the photo later during the day the colours seem more vibrant. I particularly like the colour of the garnet, like you. Thank you for passing by and leaving your comment, your always welcome,

Hi Karen, I'm really please you have the Instone bug, good look with your searching. As they say variety is the spice of life. Although my main collection is Bernard Instone, I also collect Norman Grant who is a great favourite of mine, I have a few pieces to put up on CW. Gladys and Charles Mumford, I'm always on the look out for, and my favourite after Instone, Dorrie Nossiter. I'm still on the look out for silver compacts and cigarettes cases. I love my Georgian pieces, I really do have to try and limit myself, lol.
Thanks Karen for your lovely compliment. :-)

Jean, I agree with all the comments above :-D

      Beautiful mid Victorian era brooch!
Those garnets do have a ruby color, do you have an UV torch to test them?

Hi kyra, I tried your little experiment, no they don't react to UV light.

So, very nice red in those garnets, Jean!
    19. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 8 years ago
I've also tested them on my diamond tester, they don't test as Rubies but test as garnets. :-)
