I can't seem to get good pictures of the carvings on this bottle.
On one side there is a man fishing under a big tree, pulling a giant carp out of the water.
On the other side there is a man walking up a mountainous road carrying a stick on his back loaded with what appears to be wood on either side.
The carving is really amazing, and the watery appearance of the skin reminds me of water jade. This is what's known as a carving from the Suzhou School - there wasn't really a 'school' but the Suzhou area had a lot of fine craftsmen who carved jade and other stones in this style. The level of detail and the watery smoothness are indicators.
It is well hollowed too. I bought this with a group of 13 bottles - including the celadon jade chi dragons, the laque burgaute, the Zhong Kui Porcelain, the Canton Export Mother of Pearl, the small round horn and ivory with no top, and the family scene round porcelain, the two cloisonne, the birds and cherry blossoms porcelain, an overlay not posted yet, and a very old inside painted on clear glass that I haven't posted yet, and a very small agate not yet posted.
Very pretty colour!..:-)
Thanks inky!
