This pretty flower necklace is my newest ebay purchase. It's made probably from low grade silver, has no marks. I would like to know its age - its condition is very good, but has a hook clasp - can it be mid century?
Cannetille is hand made with fine, twisted wire of gold or silver. The wire is coiled into three dimensional different motifs like rosettes, scrolls, shells, flowers that are then mounted on framework. This technique reached its peak in the 1820s, 1830. It can be explained by the 'gold poverty' of the time, precious metals were scarce, however opulent jewellery was in the fashion. Cannetille pieces were indeed large, but used only a small amount of precious metal.
It is so beautiful Martika, and very different!

Exactly !!! It would be very nice together... :)))
This necklace is amazing! I just had to see the matching bracelet too...very nice! I'm thinking this may be more than 925, maybe not but the lower you go the harder the metal and to do this with less % seems almost impossible. On the other hand, I have no idea how they did what they did anyway. Excellent craftsmanship!
Shareurpassion, I never thought about that. Good thinking, thank you!!! :)
