I never know whether to call these 'cast stone' or cement. they weigh about 100 lbs each and appear to be quite old, but in excellent condition. i bought them at urban ore in berkeley today. i might use them on this victorian i'm working on in Alameda.

As far as I know, similar pieces were made till at least the '60s, and they are coming back.

these might be mid-century, or they could be earlier. these are very well made and also made to use in a public place, since even empty they are over 100 lbs each! i'm going to paint them different colors.
