I have to say its old and authentic based on the other items at the sale but I just don't know. Please help.

I believe the mask is of the Dan tribe located in and around Liberia. Many of these are 20th century tourist pieces rather than actual ritual items used by tribe members, but a museum would be your best resource if you think it may be authentic. I don't believe it has anything to do with death - more likely ritual initiation. Very decorative and a nice mask. These do have some value as visual arts pieces, even if of the tourist variety.
