That is a very unusual Valentine card. But, I guess being single (or an old maid if you will) was considered just a terrible thing back then. In 1912 you were probably already considered an old maid if you were 16 and unmarried:) I do love this old Valentine postcard!!

I wonder why there was such a rush for marriage back when. No difference in child bearing years--maybe a little respite for the girls til the husband ran off with a younger honey!! Women seem to have lost their teeth earlier! I notice that in many of my CDV photos(pre 1900)and and Cabinet Card photos Popular 1900- 1930)--About 40, teeth were going. So many really old people did not even have dentures?? Cost prohibitive??ALSO most likely knees and elbows wore out too from all the hard work. Women may have worn out faster in many physical ways. Maybe the old dear running for love in the valentine was supposed to be about 40. Now seniors marry at 90. No problem. BUT-- Not for me!! eGad!
