Hi everyone, could you please take a look at this brush pot I have posted today, I cant make out what its made of, its heavy, well incised with the images and it rings in a dull way, I have done hot metal test and what happened, and I think you can see on the photo of the bottom, it seem to have removed a tiny bit of the surface laquer, any ideas would be very welcome, also if anyone might be able to date this it would be greatly appreciated. FYI I have translated the inscription it says something like
' one hundred boys playing in the garden' I have used the google scan translation system if you're interested thanks for looking
The piece measures 5 Inches tall by 3 inches wide
1935 autumn
Is this pottery ? The foot looks odd to me ?
Hi Rockbat, odd in what way? I am very interested

what kind of smell did it give off when you used the hot needle on it? did it sink in/melt? is it resin?
Morning ho2cultcha, when I pressed the hot knife on it there was no smell and no blackening, what happened was that a small piese of what appeared to ne the laquer? Coating came off to reveal a white background, the base appears to have some grain on as you can see on the photos, what do you think?
Hi everyone, I have done some more investigation with this one and I think it may be Tau river stone, any comments very welcome
