    Hi everyone, could you please take a look at this brush pot I have posted today, I cant make out what its made of, its heavy, well incised with the images and it rings in a dull way, I have done hot metal test and what happened, and I think you can see on the photo of the bottom, it seem to have removed a tiny bit of the surface laquer, any ideas would be very welcome, also if anyone might be able to date this it would be greatly appreciated. FYI I have translated the inscription it says something like
    ' one hundred boys playing in the garden' I have used the google scan translation system if you're interested thanks for looking
    The piece measures 5 Inches tall by 3 inches wide

      Thanks fleafinder, so are you saying it is from a set of 4 seasons? and dated 1935, how have you arrived at the date? I would be very pleased to understand more

      hi peter its is written yi hai (1935)
      xiayue(autumn) probably made in the autumn month of 1935

      its the chinese ancient way of calculating the year in cycles of 12. unfortunately i find it very complicating too.....

      nope peter its the 10th and 11th words counting from top right downwards. the words in the right square is "china" and the left square "art"

      what kind of smell did it give off when you used the hot needle on it? did it sink in/melt? is it resin?

      Morning ho2cultcha, when I pressed the hot knife on it there was no smell and no blackening, what happened was that a small piese of what appeared to ne the laquer? Coating came off to reveal a white background, the base appears to have some grain on as you can see on the photos, what do you think?
