I was really pleased when I spotted today this 21'' long malachite necklace in a charity shop. I love this stone and the price was very good : £1.50! The another necklace, an aurora borealis double strand had a same price tag. It looks vintage to me, the clasp, claw setting and everything, except it is in very good condition, nearly like brand new without box! I heard lots of fake 'vintage' jewellery is manufactured in Asia nowadays. I would like to know your thoughts :)

The barrel clasp on the Malachite necklace would put it at around the 1930s. The other necklace looks to have a good solid clasp, I wouldn't think it is a fake, if it had a lobster clasp I would think again. Nice buy.

Your malachite beads are very nice quality and likely from the Urals, made in USSR; African and Mexican malachite looks a bit different. Btw, barrel clasp was commonly used in Russia long after 1930s, through 1970s.

Wow, great finds! I need to find some charity shops like yours, most of them near me are far too clued up on this stuff!

Thank you fleafinder!!! Sorry about your experience!!! I imagine how annoying is when you realise your long awaited item isn't what you expect. But we can always put down this as a learning!!!
