This was removed from a leather bound manual of very vintage songs. 1870-8s0 ) It used to be when you saved up enough favorites you took your pile to the bookbinder who cut off the edges off your sheet music ( decreases value) and bound them in a large size leather volume. I don't know what that cost was but I can say a bound volume of special old sheet music titles is well over $100-200 today!! Some people keep them volumes together and some sell off separate titles they feel will, in the long run, bring more money than the entire unit would as found.
The big news he art is by ALFRED CONCANEN (1835 - 1886) was a leading lithographer of the Victorian era, best known for his elaborately illustrated sheet music covers. His covers often featured illustrations of the popular music hall performers of the times or scenes from the songs themselves. He began an art career in the 1860s and I am convinced this is one of his early efforts in the field of sheet music--not as elaborate as later covers were , and probably pretty rare to the collector. (It is not the usual beautiful quality he later produced))
The Mohawk Minstrels---In the 19th century, minstrel shows were hugely popular and the Mohawk Minstrels were one of the most famous troupes. They performed for many years at this venue, from 1876 until 1900, as well as touring.London, and began touring. Much into Black Minstrel performances,
This "extract" is really funny, and as it was published in London, seldom are copyright dates found.Very odd subject matter---poisoning the hubby with "Irish Stew", isn't it? Centuries out of copyright, in public domain, you can play the chorus without infringement violation! Ha ha.
