I'm not sure what this is, but came a crossed it in a box in the attic. It's a paperweight with a photo inside along with these trumpets. It measures about 14" diameter and 5" high. It's beautiful but no clue of where, how, when or why. Has anyone every seen one like this? It's HEAVY and very big for a paperweight. I've added a picture of the bottom/side. It will only let me add 4 pictures.
The photo looks to be from Victorian times. Do you not have any family members who might know if the woman is family? Did you find it among belongings of an older relative, or what?
Can we have a pic of the very bottom of the glass? need that too
One B.F. paperweight !! Maybe a door stop ?
I think the first photo is the bottom of the glass.
I added a picture of the bottom/side. This was in the attic of a friend of mine great aunt. It's been there for a long time. Noone knows the history. It definitely is a mystery. The detail of the trumpets is outstanding. It is from an older relative of my friend. She is 50.
The portrait inside is a milk glass, it's not paper.
That might work here as a paperweight. In a hurricane !
The base indicates to me that it is of Asian/Chinese. Still may be older but Asian for sure.
Thank you for all your help! I put it up on Ebay so we will see.
