    I acquired this lock in an estate's garage. It's about 10" long and fairly heavy, maybe 4 lbs.
    Just curious what is was used for?

      What I find odd is, it doesn't appear to open up to fit around something. That type key is not real old either.

      It is an old automobile wheel lock (the original tire boot - to keep someone from stealing your car), ca. 1920's. There is a hinge in the pointed end.

      PS. it's for wood spoked auto wheels, not steel rims.

      Oh, now I see the hinge. So you lock this on the hub & somebody drives off with the lock on the hub ? Guess it will get loose & fall off at some point. LOL !

      I might be slow, but I get there. Had to look up "tire boot" since they aren't used down here.
