William PatersonEwen oil on canvas landscape painting.(Signed)
I purchased this at the estate of a wealthy man from Quebec Canada.I have examined it closely (sides of the canvas underneath frame has irregular painting edge..small paint smears .. It has layered texture...No dots under strong magnification ect. I also made a side by side comparison to a textured giclee I own. It appears to be genuine in every respect. The painted surface itself is 12x16. It has been professionally framed in a high quality vintage wood frame. It is in excellent condition with brilliant color (no fading, rips, holes or crazing.) Through research Ive learned that Paterson Ewen was a famous Canadian painter (1925-2002)His early works were mostly landscape ..but became more abstract in the mid 60s. He became most famous for his large paintings on gouged plywood with abstract and celestial images. It is a beautiful painting and represents his traditional work from the late 40s until the early 50s. Any advice on auctions would be very helpful. Thanks
