When I bough this at a yard sale I though it was a three sided file. While cleaning the rust off there were no edges or teeth on the sides, so it could not be a file. The over all length is about 14 inches, 5/8 inches at the widest part of the tool. The tip is very sharp. About 3 inches from the tip all 3 flat sides are indented.
On the end of the wooden handle it reads; Shur-Grip No. 4 Made in USA. I think this applies to the handle only and not the tool.
Some of the rust pits are very deep, yet the handle appears to be a lot newer. About half of the tool was covered in masking tape. I feel this was to give the user a place to put his other had for better control of the tool.
I am guessing at some type of wood working tool, but can not ID it anywhere.
Taking a stab in the dark and saying it could be a wood workers scribe??
Any assistance with the identification of the hand tool would be greatly appreciated.
