Here is some new revelation about this sword:
I was told by the guy selling this sword that it was recovered from a shipwreck in Florida Keys and it was given to him. While it looks rusty and tarnished, the significance of this relic is the name on the blade. The initial looks like J. G. Doolittle in the English Towne Font.
I was forwarded a link to information from a book published by William Oscar Atkeson named History of Bates County Missouri. Pages 238-440 is on Jesse G. Doolittle born May 18, 1887. At the top of page 440 it says and I quote " Mr. Doolittle is fraternally listed with the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Foster Lodge No. 554" end quote.
I will type up a little more information about him later on.
