The first picture is of the great grandad of all folding knives and dates from the 18th century. In England we call folders pen knives because they were originally for shaping and sharpening quill pens. So the first knives were fixed blade with a long handle. This One is ivory handled. Unfortunately the tip of the blade is missing. The folder is late 18th century and has ivory scales. It is the natural successor of the fixed blade. Both quite rare survivors.
