At first I thought it was plastic, but these shells are cold to the touch and have a sheen like MOP. Strung on a silicone cord.
Have you ever? I haven't.....and an Image search turned up lots of clam shell jewelry but nothing resembling this bracelet.
What do you think?
Now I know these are Pipi shells, thanks to Judy!
Thanks!!

How very cool!!
I think there are mollusk mummies inside......
wow what a pleasant surprise of beautiful jewelry when i wake up this morning.Feast for my eyes!
Look like a pipi shell.......maybe!
now we know what to bbq when we re feeling hungry
just joking :D
LOL you guys!
Judy - I looked that up on the web and didn't find anything like this, but did see other Pipi shell jewelry. Are there any "touristy" shops near you that might sell such a bracelet?
Not that I know of Bonnie......maybe someone just handmade it ?? Do they feel solid? They look in such good condition..... I don't know....using the whole shell, I wonder how they got the "insides" out .....do they look like they might have been opened, cleaned out and then re glued? Don't mind me I am just thinking out loud here LOL
mollusk mummies .. :DDDDD
Judy - yes, they are definitely solid. Do these sort of shells have that MOP glow, too? I have no idea, as I never heard of Pipi shells until you mentioned them.
Bonnie, we call them pipi shells here but others might call them clam shells.....depends where you come from I guess, they are from the same family as Cockle, periwinkle, scallop, oyster which are all bivalves
I'm pretty sure they don't look like this "in the wild" I think they must have been cleaned and polished to look like this.
Tassie is right, that iridescence is from grinding/polishing down the surface of the shell until mother-of-pearl starts showing through.
davyd286 - that's what I had thought. I wonder who made it ( the unanswerable question, hahaha!).
val - I wonder if there might be matching earrings out there, somewhere.....lol!
If there are, I'm sure you'll get them for something ridiculous like .25cents! [;>)
Hi val - Neither am I. This is really the first "touristy" type of jewelry I have bought, aside from some items from Lourdes. I can only imagine what a pair of earrings might look like.....yikes.....
