This is another doll from the three doll auction lot I recently won. She is dated 1862, has a china head, leather hands, cloth arms and legs and body. Her clothing appears original and is in exquisite condition. I can't believe her head is in such wonderful condition, too. Thanks for looking!
I am adding her height, which is 20", after my initial post as I know people want to know how big she is.
Gorgeous China and it is amazing how well these China dolls held up considering they were breakable . How tall is she ? I love the really large ones .
Thank you, Manikin! I agree; it is amazing how well they held up. She is 20 inches in height. I love the big ones, too!
She is beautiful!
Thank you, bradenava1. Thanks so much for the love, kyratango, fortapache, TassieDevil, and racer4four.
An incredible flat top china head. Fantastic kid arms and the molding is exceptional on this example, nice and deep. Where or how is she dated 1862?
Hi chinaheads. Thank you so much. I adore her! 1862 is written in ink on her torso. She came from the Jean Hess collection as did the other doll I recently included on here.
Fascinating. I was curious as china heads are generally not marked (if they are it's usually a sizing number), and a year marking on the plate would be a first that I've seen. What sort of handwriting is it written in, a child's? I'd say she's was made as one of the first in her mold, due to her crisp, deep molding. I love her.
It appears to be written in fountain pen ink (rather than ballpoint) and it is most definitely by an adult hand. Thank you for the information on her. I just love her. I will take some photos of her undergarments to share here as they're just wonderful.
Thank you, jscott0363.
