Normally, this sort of thing isn't my thing but I found the carving and wood grain to be beautiful. Measures up at 12 inches high. Hollow on the top, like a planter. The small football shaped mark on the side, halfway up, seems to be intentional.
Who knows about these sorts of carvings? I think this is just a tourist piece, but not anything like what I normally see in the shops and at the flea markets. An Image search didn't produce any results. I wonder if the long tusks represent the elephant. Can you tell I really don't have any clue about this piece of art? :-))))
Thanks for any information.

I visit thrift stores (5) twice weekly on average. One mans treasure-----------
@charlieseaess > I go at least several times a week, plus weekends to the flea markets and garage sales. Been doing that for the better part of 40 years. If you don't look, you don't find!
I love hunting for treasures. I find it relaxing and tons of fun. I choose all kinds of things. No special category.
That is truly an interesting carving. The wood is beautiful. Great find!!!
I sit on my big fat rump in my easy chair all day long and search eBay for my knife deals!!! LOL. [;>)))))
Bonnie, not my area of collecting too, but this wood carving is so appealing I'd grasped it too :-)
kyra - I've tried Image searches and varied word searches but haven't found a single thing that looks remotely like this carving. I sent photos to an African art website on Facebook, so wonder if I will get a reply. Going to search for other tribal art carving sites, too.
NB - I hope you have a big, fat comfy easy chair for your big fat rump, HAHAHAHA!!
(luvs ya, ya know!!!!)
Such a nicely made peace Bonnie! I love how they did the protruding tusks...
Rick55 - it really is interesting - I wish I knew what it represents.
This is great Bonnie. I would have grabbed it up too. We need a wood expert to come around.
