Salvation Army has yielded many good things this week. This beautiful set was sitting in their display case. Made in Korea and done in the "Limoges" style with a wonderful cobalt blue background the design includes floral panels and plenty of gilded accents. The whole set is new in box with only the pot being unwrapped. There is a tiny rubbed spot in the gilding on the handle of the pot from hitting against the box because it has lost it's wrapping. However the spout still has it's plastic sleeve guard. Probably taken out a lot and looked at or shown at the shop it came from. Everything else is still in it's original wrappers. There are six cups, six saucers, two lidded bowls, a small serving tray, and the pot along with three lids. The pamphlet inside is all in Korean so I can't read it and nothing online as far as what's written on the box in English . No Royal Gold China in any searches. I'd love to know the age and what it original sold for. Similar Chinese sets online sell for around the 250-300 dollar range. The price tag is missing off this box with just a bar code left. Quite a pretty little set although I'm not sure if it's for coffee, tea, cocoa or all three. -Mike-

If that price tag is 2929 South Korean Won, then the $ price at the time was $2.50.

Well, that is what it translates to now - $2.50....

Barcodes came into use around 1974.

lol...Thanks Bonnie :).... well I hope that's just a stock number and that decimal point can be moved over two places. I believe it reads 92929. Similar Chinese sets seem to sell for 250 on the import/ export wholesale sites. But maybe 40 some years ago it was that cheap. :P

It's wonderful Mike, and looks high end. We tend to forget about Korea when we think about porcelain yet their production history is nearly as long as China's and their skills and artists are as good. Any Korean shops or communities nearby to ask? Or maybe a museum with Korean collections?

Oh yes, I see the other 9 now....didn't look like a 9 late last night, LOL! I looked for a set online using several different searches but came up empty.

Thanks Karen...Korea has some beautiful porcelain. I had a "Thousand Cranes Vase" based on the 12th century original. Even the repo's can be quite expensive.

I thought researching it would be so easy too Bonnie. I finally did get an ID on the Satsuma piece I posted just before this one through NB's wife said it was an " Ikebana" or flower arranger. The small wood or metal container for the water and flower frog that goes inside is missing. Now I just need to pin down the age and maker of that. I did finally find the mark but no dice even though I now know what it is. Nothing like that online either. More mysteries to solve. :)

Thanks Rick...yes it has been a feast this week but most of the time it's famine with as you said just a bunch of junk. Still this is probably one of my favorite store in terms of the best finds when they do come along. :)
