I'm pretty sure that this is a nice vintage California pottery piece - maybe Bauer or Garden City? i have a few of these at the nursery, but this one is nicer and a little smaller than the others and in perfect condition. i picked it up for a dollar today. it's 5.5" wide by 4" tall.

Seems to me that I've had that form before marked "White" pottery in script with a shape number below. Am I seeing a hint of a mark underglaze? No info on White pottery co.

My initial thought was also White but it looks a little more refined than their usual product.

thanks art.pottery, artfoot, and valentino! the larger ones i have are inferior quality to this one. they chip easy and just don't have the art pottery feel/look that this one does.

I have two of these and saw another at the thrift store the other day. None marked.

Ha! I have this piece too. No marks on the bottom of mine either. If it helps: I picked mine up at a thrift in California about 20 years ago. Which is another mark for California origin.
