    Have here an Older version of an Ontario 3-79 Fixed Blade Knife or Bayonet. This has the knob at the end made of a heavy brass where the name is stamped. Size from top to bottom 9.5 inches. I was wondering is anyone could determine if this is a knife or Bayonet and how old it is.

      That looks remarkably similar to a Ka-bar survival knife that was issued to pilots in the Vietnam era although they were stamped Ka-bar and had the phosphor coating. I worked in a ships armory during that time and never could figure out what the two holes in the guard were for. Of course being a young sailor you couldn't ask a question like that.
