Hi im not sure what this is i think it might be something that might have been part of something that was used to hook animals to pull wagon or something maybe not really sure i was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it is
You have it exactly right. This is a piece from a "single tree" used to secure a draft animal to a load: a wagon, plow, harrow, etc. The hardware, one at each end and one in the center of the "tree" - which was anywhere from around 1 1/2 feet to 3 feet or so long - sometimes consisted of hooks, chain links, or, as in this case a simple loop to which a hook is attached.
Thank you uncleron would you happen to know around how old and of it might have any value?
Could be any age from maybe fifty to 150 years old. No value at all. You can get an entire single tree around here for a couple dollars at any farm auction. Really nice "decorator grade" ones with fancy-looking forged hardware go for $15.
Ok thaks alot for the information it was really helpful
