Up until now I've only had imitation shadow agate bottles, and they weren't carved.
I had to tilt this one in the sun so you can see the amazing detail.
The way this bottle is carved reminds me of the carving on my Gray and White jade, and so I'm going to call it Suzhou school.
The carving is of a scholar and two students sitting next to an arched doorway. On the other side a bridge spans over a waterfall leading to a dwelling.
It has a flat slightly concave base, is very well hollowed, and is quite large (also like my jade) measuring 6.8cm tall.
I bought this one with two other very fine ones that I will post next.
Hi olebodie - that's a good question. I honestly don't know if it's old or a modern reproduction
So much work into this superb snuff bottle! You really have beautiful pieces :-)
