Regulation…
(1 item)
I recently purchased this old wall phone and I am having a bit of difficulty identifying the year it was manufactured. My research to date tells me that this was made by Holtzer-Cabot. The phone has a 5 Bar Magneto, each bar marked with ( H-C) which I believe indicates Holtzer-Cabot. The writing pad can be positioned up or down to suit the user. It appears that most, if not all the parts inside the "Cathedral Top Box" are where they should be and there is no evidence of any previous major alterations done to this phone. The phone does have some small issues, one screw missing on the key lock retainer plate, a minor bit of wood cracking around two of the mounting holes of the main box, and one of the wires which are embedded across the back of the box has had a repair made on it. I would certainly appreciate any information that could be rendered regarding this phone.
Thanks & Regards
You have what looks like to be a complete Holtzer-Cabot picture frame front cathedral top 1907 wall phone. H-C was there tradmark used on magneto's and transmitter face plates. Holtzer-Cabot Electric Co of Boston (Brookline) Mass. started manufacturing telephones for intercom use in 1889.
Thanks TTomtucker. I think I found a phone that has not been seen too much as it was a bit difficult finding out information on this nice piece. I have looked at it from every angle and to me it appears to be very much complete with the exception of the added segment of wire on the back. I feel like I made a nice find for just getting into to old phone arena. The H-C trademark is present both on the transmitter and on the magneto and that was about all I could find without tearing it apart which I am not going to do!
Thanks again for your help.
I think its a beautiful phone. It's very similar to the Julius Andrae one I'm restoring. I'm in the same boat you are in, as I'm just getting into this arena also.
Hello! Thanks to TTomtucker, I now know what I have (I also have one of these same models). I'm new to this site, but in case TTomtucker will see my posting, I'm wondering if there were any other years of manufacture in addition to 1907 for this phone. Mine *appears* to be exactly the same on the outside, at least! Thanks for any additional information or other references for this phone!
dsmith16 please post yours. I would be happy to see it.
