I really love carbuncle/almandine garnets!
And paste antique jewellery!
And brooches!
So, when my path crossed this lovely thing... I had to buy it! :-D
The center is red glass, but the edges are (in my opinion!) almandine garnets.
The center setting is gold color (gold?), silver is unmarked.
I place it in 1860's era.
Length: 1.1/4" or 3.2cm
Height: 1.1/8" or 2.8cm
This is a beautiful brooch!!!

Oohh, Eileen! Thank you so much for your enthousiasm and taking the time to leave such a kind comment :-)
Yes, very old, the tube hinge combined with the C clasp gives the mid 19th era, plus the style and construction.
The center cab is obviously deep red glass while the surrounding stones have the distinctive pinkish purple red color of almandine garnets (but could be glass too, my cheap gem tester can't say...).
I have the luck to be very sensitive to the different tones of a same color, that help for stones id or mixing colors for matching remains in my kyratisations ;-D
:-D thanks Eileen!
